Las Vegas is alive this weekend, as the unofficial start of summer arrives with Memorial Day weekend. 

AAA anticipates that a historic 45.1 million individuals will journey at least 50 miles over the holiday period (Thursday, May 22, to Monday, May 26). The nonprofit motor club organization, recognized primarily for its roadside emergency aid service, ranks Las Vegas among the top five Memorial Day travel spots. Hertz acknowledged Vegas' popularity this weekend, revealing that Sin City ranks fourth in rental car demand. 

The Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority (LVCVA) anticipates that 340,000 tourists will come to Southern Nevada over the four-day span. Although that figure is a 1.4% decrease from the 2024 holiday that commemorates military personnel who lost their lives while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, Strip casino hotels are almost fully booked, and the few available rooms are priced high.

The rate for a two-night stay from tonight until Monday at Wynn or Encore Las Vegas is $720 per night. The rate encompasses all resort fees following a regulatory update by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) enacted earlier this month, mandating short-term lodging operators to incorporate all required fees in their upfront advertised price, excluding taxes. 

The Venetian's nightly cost is $1,149 (the Palazzo is fully booked), the Bellagio charges $617, and The Cosmopolitan rates are $794. 

Even a property that is usually less expensive like Treasure Island is requesting $448 per night, Planet Hollywood is $453, and Horseshoe is $345. The Durango off the Strip costs $358, while the Palms is priced at $320.

For guests who reserve a room, a wealth of daytime and nighttime events is organized along the Strip and throughout the Valley. Throughout the day, nearly every Strip casino is throwing a sun-drenched pool party featuring top celebrities and DJs. 

During the night, David Guetta performs at LIV in Fontainebleau, while Tyga takes over the decks at Hakkasan in MGM Grand. 

Tonight and tomorrow, Kenny Chesney is performing at The Sphere, while Bruno Mars is at Park MGM. Sebastian Maniscalco is performing at Encore for comedy, while Whitney Cummings is at The Venetian. 

Visitor Metrics 

Last year, 41.7 million individuals traveled to Las Vegas, marking a 2% increase compared to 2023 and the largest figure since 2019 when the location attracted over 42.5 million visitors. 

Convention figures, however, stayed unchanged from last year at 5.9 million. Exhibition attendance has struggled to reach its pre-COVID numbers, which saw over 6.6 million attendees.

The only positive aspect is that casino earnings in Clark County and on the Strip have increased by 0.4%.
